Tonight's Match is Rained Out!

Tonight's match is rained out. I called Prissy and we made some other calls, yada yada.

Here are the options for now.

Laguna Hills High School, Thursday at 6p. I got the okay from the coach and we may be able to court all five matches at the same time. We can delay start times up to an hour to accommodate whoever.

Purdy's Club, Friday at 5p, but we can only court three teams at once. Same situation as above for start times.

Please reply ASAP whether you are on the match roster or not.

Thanks!

How 'Bout Dem Girls from Laguna

Here's what I know about Those Girls from Laguna:

Capt Priscilla (can't remember her last name), although affectionately and conversely named Prissy (remember Foghorn Leghorn's chick) by her teammates, is not so prissy. She still only plays singles and is not known for her accurate line calls. So, Rita or Racquelt, challenge her if you believe she makes a bad call and I would appreciate someone from the team fixed to a bench over there in case the match goes to three sets just to help keep Prissy in line...DOO-Dah! DOO-Dah!

I don't think they ever split up the Sister Act, Holly and Heather Meadows. Heather is still a lefty, has a killer wide serve and always plays ad-court, but has a strong net game and Holly can't seem to ever make it to the net. Holly incessantly tries for the same side line, so give her a little more alley, but be ready to stab that ball back (The stronger net backhand from our team should play deuce-court.). After awhile, she'll stop and start lobbing - it's so predictable. Just bring the ball back down or lob behind Heather - Holly cannot return a lob on the run and the net is like super glue to Heather once she gets there.

Sally Upton, a.k.a. Sandbaggin' Sally, is still on the team. This woman knows when and whom to lose to and win to beat the crap out of them in order to keep her 4.0. rating. I think she has an app on her phone for this. All her shots are sound and nothing stands out except for perhaps her backhand slice, but she'll will find your weakness(es) and start chiseling away at it. She's a smart tennis player. Fortunately, she usually plays doubles so you will at least have an alternate target, but I have never seen her with a slacker - play smart!

Let me know what you got on these girls!

Post Season Cook-Oouut

The Post Season Cook-Oouut is scheduled for Friday, April 12th at Purdy's house

Purdy will soon be posting the time, a map to her place and whatever else, so please respond when she does so in order for her to get her ducks in a row. I didn't know she had any actually.

She did want me to say that her niece (21 yrs old) is staying with them for a few weeks and is great with children, so you can forget the baby sitter in regard to your plans if you so choose.

I'm lettin' loose and Josh promised to be the DD for the night. I hope he can handle all you girls half-sober.

Let's have a wonderful time and from here I turn it over to Purdy.

Oh, I forgot. Tommy from Tommy's Teez loved the bleeding rose image so much he went and made a sample t-shirt for us to check-out at the cook-out. He said he will give us a good deal if we go to State

Back to you Purdy.

Need Some Recruits for Guys and Dolls

Guys and Dolls 8.0 will be beginning their season really soon and we lost two guys from last year. For those of you playing with us or even if not, we need a 3.5 and/or a 4.0 guy (don't forget 40+, not so old farts) and maybe even a strong 3.0 for Racquelt to boss around. It's extremely easy finding partners for her, just difficult keeping them.

Let me know or call my co-captain, Ford D. Love, at 800-555-1212!

The American Red Cross Needs Us

As if we didn't already leave enough blood on court against Femme Fatale.

Due to the recent wildfires and other events the Red Cross has not been able to collect as much blood as usual and are expecting potential for more fires in the coming months.

I am a regular donor and was contacted by my local office to come in to donate.

I told them I would see if I could get the team out coming this Saturday, the 30th.

I know this isn't for everyone, but we are planning on going after Doubles Clinic which would put us there at 10a. Please comment here if you can go and I will take care of the rest.

Lou Strings already said he is going and I am putting the word out to the All Mixed Up gang. Afterwards, we are planning on going to lunch at this little bistro around the corner from the Red Cross.

Bitten - Femme Fatale

I guess that win against the Housewives left us with the Victory Hangover or were those girls from Femme Fatale just that damn good? They were.

Elvira switched the line-up while I left ours set and we still got waxed as a team, but Anita and RiRi took down the Goth Girls at #3 (actually #1) in two sets while the rest of us were clawing to hang on in three. We have to recap that match to see what you girls did.

Rita took her match and Dawn nearly took hers with just a 5-7, 6-3, 8-10 loss.

Congrats to Betty and Racquelt for taking #2. I don't know what happened in the first set, but you girls definitely had fun in the last two. Fran and I would like to blame stealing too many looks at their match for losing ours, but we can't. Jenn "I-Can't-Remember-The-Score" Carson and the "quiet girl" got in front of our game and we never caught up.

Video Review Meeting at 6:00am Monday in the Team Conference Room! Yeah right. I wish we had someone to videotape our matches. Nah.

Maybe Anita and RiRi can tell us what went wrong. They had a chance to see most of us play.

Let's all chat first before we hit the courts at Thursday's practice. Maybe we'll get Lou to work on our disabilities this Saturday.

Suck it up!

Femme Fatale Scoop

Who can tell me if those two tall goth looking girls that were with Femme Fatale are still with them. I have no notes on them for some odd reason and I can't remember or find their names on Tennis Link. Maybe they threw some macabre hex on me.

I remember their net game and I think Fran and I may pair up for the match and try to shut that black widow web thing they have going on up front if their captain doesn't throw off the line-up. They're good.

Help me out!

With Sympathy

I just discovered Wendy's father passed away on Friday when she called to tell me she would need a substitute for next Tuesday's match.

I'm certain many of you remember Mr. Day not only from many of the matches he would show for or end up at just having played a killer Seniors match himself, but the time he popped up at Regionals in Palm Springs and took us out after we barely won the finals against those girls from San Diego, to that quirky little spa out in the desert.

He said he was going to treat us even if we had lost. He didn't say "to what", but he pointed to a McDonald's as we drove by it. He was like that - a jokester, but always giving.

In fact, just before I got off the phone with Wendy I said, "You know this is no excuse for missing your match." She just laughed and said, "That's what dad would have said."

The funeral is at their hometown where all the family is in Phoenix and doesn't expect any of us to show.

Anita and I have already decided on a bouquet of peach roses for the funeral and they will be sent in time. Feel free to contribute what and when you can.

We are getting one of those super sized tennis balls to give to Mrs. Day with all of our signatures. We thought of simply "To a Wonderful Man". Wendy said her mother would definitely put that up in her den.

You can leave the family a message online at nathanielday.inmemoryof.com. Please include "Tennis Friend" in your signature.
